Our Minister - Rev Brian Hendrie

Brian was born and bred in Ayr and attended Braehead Primary School and then Ayr Academy.

After his schooling, he worked as a Travel Agent in Ayr and at Prestwick Airport, before he felt led by God to study for the ordained ministry. He began studying divinity in 1985 at Glasgow University and graduated in December 1989.

A few months earlier, in July 1989, he married Yvonne in the beautiful village of Portpatrick in south-west Scotland.  The following year he completed his studies by gaining a Certificate in Ministry, also from Glasgow University.

In July 1990, he began serving as a Probationer at Kingcase Church in Prestwick. He was involved at Kingcase for nine months and then spent a further eight months as a Probationer at St Andrew’s West in Falkirk.

In January 1992 he was ordained and inducted into his first charge, Hawick Wilton with Teviothead in the Presbytery of Jedburgh.  After a fruitful five years there, he served in churches in the presbyteries of Falkirk, Perth and Buchan before his induction to Maybole with Crosshill in September, 2010.

During his ministry in Maybole, the parish church found its new home within The Carrick Centre, and Brian had the privilege of conducting the first worship service there in January 2012.

He was inducted into St Leonard’s l/w Dalrymple in March 2015, and served two years as the Moderator of Ayr Presbytery from 2018 until 2020.

Currently he is Vice-Convener of the Business and Nomination Committee in Ayr Presbytery; and the Interim Moderator at Monkton and Prestwick North Parish Church. He is also on the management committees of the local Street Pastors and The Ayr Ark. In addition he was recently appointed, (with Yvonne), as an ambassador for Ayrshire Cancer Support.

Brian and Yvonne have a daughter, Chloe, (born in 1997).

Away from working responsibilities, Brian enjoys reading, sports, cycling short distances (!), and spending quality ‘caravan time’ as often as possible down the coast at Maidens.

And finally, it will come as no surprise to his congregations to know that his favourite bible passage is the parable of the Prodigal Son!
